Motometer 5k RPM tach change for a 7k RPM?

Hey all - my E30 has a MotoMeter cluster which needs an odo fix, so I figured I'd finally get around to also changing out the 5,000 RPM tachometer.

Can I just drop a 7,000 RPM unit in? 5K unit works fine, is there any coding plugs, etc. to muck with?

    Thanks!

I suggest getting a 7k tach (I dont think brand (VDO or MotoMeter) matters). Then getting a code plug for a 7k rev limit and 6cyl engine. You may have better luck buying a whole instrument cluster as getting just a 7k tach can be hard to find.

There are two kinds, early and late. Doesn't matter if VDO or Moto. I can't remember off the top of my head which is which, but one is a two piece tach that the eco gauge stays in the cluster (just the tach comes out), the other had the tach and eco gauge integrated.

Since it's already a 6 cylinder, there's no need to change any coding plugs - if yours is even equipped with one, my 86 eta wasn't.
