Mechanically, it is identical to a euro swap. That means that aside from the brake booster issue, it is mechanically identical to a US S5x motor swap. The only different part mechanically comes in when you try to mount the e46 m3 6spd transmission, as that requires a different driveshaft iirc. There are a few threads documenting that fact, and since I have not done the tranny swap myself I cannot comment further on it.

The S/M54 swap is complicated not due to the mechanical swap requirements but from the electronic side. There is a rather complete thread detailing the M54 swap into an E30, and a select few on S54s.

Because these motors are relatively recent, they have quite a few electronic issues that are expensive and/or time consuming to deal with on E30s. Mechanically, they are simple though. Making it fit is one thing; making it run is another.

Did you CHECK the thread directly under this one?

Goddamn, son. Alex is making a plug and play standalone kit for E30s and E36s.

This didn't even need the search button, it was literally the top thread in the section before you bumped this one.

And I'm driving it daily to and from work, with the kids in the back, and in and out of the city.

Just ironing out cold start compensation issues for streetability. Once up to temp, its just incredible.
