    s54 swap tune comparison

sorry, im not trying to beat a dead horse hear because i have used the search function and there are plenty of threads regarding tunes, but few have remotely decent comparisons

i started this thread more so desiring to hear input on what people are using tune-wise and their review of it

i personally am in need of a tune for my swap but cant come to a conclusion. ive called epic and a few others and cant yet decide

i wish the majority weren’t 1500 bucks just to delete ews, rear o2 sensors and emissions stuff.

so if you do have a tune, id really appreciate your time and input regarding the performance of it, cost, etc etc

and i know there are a few vending on here and i don’t want to step on any toes, or try to say someone’s ecu package is better than another but id just love a rear comparisons of what is available on the market

    thanks for your time

I think epic's tune is probably one of the best. I'm really thinking their tune, the afe intake and headers is best performance for the dollar.

You could always get a tune, and "somebody" else can delete ews etc. for much less afterwards. ;)

i've done about 7 of these swaps with various mods, headers, big throttle body, lite flywheel, underdrive pullies, csl intake stock intake, from my experience i'd go with EPIC hands down, car starts every time, no hunting during warnups, no fault codes, good customer service, u can get custom brushup tunes if u have access to a dyno, u get what u pay for, he has a proven track record

Based on my experience, stock program is the best because envelope is pushed far on 91 octane minimum anyway. Getting any commercial tune will result in engine pinging on a hot day and ecu trimming down the maps anyway.

What is better than stock is stock euro CSL ecu clone. What I do is install GM map sensor on the vacuum tube and rewire few things and I have stock CSL ecu on a non CSL engine running without MAF and straight intake pipe and it runs awesome, then I delete the emissions stuff.

I'd have to disagree about the tuning part - unless you think tuning is just increasing the fuel and timing at random. the thing about Epic is their extensive knowledge of VANOS tuning which is where I believe most of the power comes from. the stock tune is definitely not at the limit of what the motor is capable of.

there are others who can do the CSL clone as well, but depending on your DME there are bugs that still need to be worked out.

^+1 S54/S62 tune power is made with vanos timing among other things, not your standard just throw more timing at it up top tune.
