Ok I just picked up a clean right hand drive touring and I need everyones opinion and thoughts on a motor swap. I have three options a S52 (have), M54B30 (have), or a S54 (dont have). My father and I run a salvage yard and I have plenty of BMW engines and harnesses and ecu's etc etc laying around. So I need to know if it is worth it to do the extra work and money to put a M54 or S54 in. I have a good lead on a S54 that needs piston rings but its just the motor so I would need everything else (ecu, wiring, air box, etc). I have a M54B30 with everything but there is extra cost in getting the ECU to work and seems a bit harder then the S52 engine that has been done a thousand times but the S52 doesnt seem to have that mush more power over the M54. opinions welcome.

My friend built his S54 touring and it is a beast. Do it. Take your time. Gather your parts and build your dream. We used Bimmerworld/EPIC motorsports for DME reflash and tune purpose.

I can flash the S54 ECU for $300
a brand new plug and play wiring harness for anS54 E30 is around $750 I think from Andrew325is, or you can make your own.
you can get used DMEs cheap if you look. it can be any version, as long as it's from an E46 M3. I've typically paid $100-$300 at most.Comment
