E30 325ix vs....forester XT?

A buddy of mine has a Forester XT with Koni shocks/springs, 17" wheels with good tires, and thick anti-sway bars in the front and back

I have a 1990 325ix, and would love nothing more than to kick his ass around a track sometime.

I know I wont beat him in a straight line without some really heavy work, but in a track/cornering situation, I was wondering what you guys thought it would take to take him down a peg.

I think....Bilstien HD's with HR Springs, 17x7.5 tires, some strut bars, and good bushings all over the place would put me right next to him in the corners (but as soon as we hit a straight line I'd never catch him).

that thing looks like a truck.. a lightly modded ix isn't exactly a track beast, but even a stock WRX isn't all that fast (modded STIs put the hurt down, though). however that thing looks like it would be in better competition with a chevy blazer or ford exporer than an E30. the AWD system is apparently dumbed down quite a bit (toyotafied?) to save costs.

yeah, the old ones are something else.

but still, I dunno. a lot of the WRXs and their drivers aren't as scary as you'd think. it's almost like the whole skyline GTR syndrome (OMG a skyline! it must be fast!).

Nope, its an 04 with a 5 speed. Its a formidable car, I will give it that, but stock for stock the E30 has slightly better numbers around the skidpad, and at the end of the day I'd still be lower to the ground in a lighter vehicle that's designed for handling.

I dunno, I hope to find out sometime, but until then its just a thought.

My BMW addiction is starting to get expensive, so it wont be for quite a while....

okay, well a modded 04 vs a lightly modded ix - you're probably licked, unless you're a significantly better driver than him. so that means do some HPDEs and track schools, and you'll be faster than him without touching your car. ;)
