    ABS Problem

    Hi,

    I recently picked up a 89 325ix that has a ABS issue.

Anyway, when I first start the car, the ABS light is off. After I start driving the ABS light comes on. Can I assume that it's a bad speed sensor?

I heard that the sensors need to be at 980 - 1000 ohms - is that correct?

Thanks in advance for any help.

That is roughly correct... I think the issue arrives when you have something waaaay out of spec. (so a 870 reading doesn't mean it is bad).

there is a 2 inch long relay under the knee bolster. its located above the abs unit. it powers the DME and the controls the comunication with the abs computer. 9-10 times this is the problem ( its was on my IX)

Agree with the above, however, at some point that relay was incorporated into the main abs cpu, so if you spend 2 hours looking for it, fruitlessly, like I did... there may be another reason!

I had a similar problem as described as above and it went away with the replacement of the abs cpu (with a used one for like $25).
