    Oversize tires?

Trying to go UP with my iX. 205/70-15 is a common older Subaru size and plenty available. Sidewall would be just under an inch taller than stock. I think it should fit with stock springs and an extra set of spring pads.
This car is my winter beater/summer camping rig and needs a little more ground clearance.

Anyone running a bigger tire on their car? Anyone have a set of stock springs? Mine came lowered by PO, not sure if they're decent springs or cut, but they're coming out.

I'm pretty interested in this as well. I had some relatively meaty Winterforce's on my old STi, lifted on Forester springs. It was a great for the winter and the old forest roads around the George Washington National Forest here. It'd be even more fun with an iX though.

those are HUGE. I wouldn't do it personally - you're likely to have rubbing issues up front, not to mention handling is going to go out the window. But if you must..

I didn't think they were HUGE... 205/65-15 a better idea? A little rubbing is OK, I'm willing to do a little clearancing... I'm wondering what kind of tire size some of the rally e30's are running.

Not worried about handling, my other e30's are for that. The iX kind of handles like a turd anyway.

I have e36 size tires and the car is pretty low. But I do have over 1000lbs springs with shorter inverted shocks in there too ;)

oh and 70's WILL rub pretty bad even in a 14" with stock susp....

            my tires

I searched and searched for good on/off road tires. The best I came up with are these: http://www.coopertire.com/html/produ...discoverer_atr

They are actually rated for off-road and though not the BEST rallyx tires, certainly better than any all seasons and still comfortable on the highway.

I got the 205/70/15 which will put me up 1.2". Since on stock my IX has 3" clearance on the front and 2.5" in the rear, I'll still have over an inch grace/travel and be totally fine when I get the billy HD on.

The tires will be on tomorrow. I'll post pics.

ChaseN - I'm in Washington, PA. we need to hook up and talk IXs and S14s. Are you rallying yours? I have a stock cherry coupe manual IX and my rally coupe IX with 105K is currently undergoing a MAJOR rally overhaul. I'm on e30tech 99% of the time.

I wouldn't do an ATR on a car. We are a cooper distributor and currently handle tens of thousands of Coopers in our warehouse...

ATRs are tires designed for people who want to drive an "all terrain" tire on a daily basis on the highway without sacrificing ride quality like in a real A/T tire. These customers generally drive their every day SUVs on the highway and consider off-roading driving down a dirt road to their camping site. Granted you will have better traction then an all season but buying this tire for an "off road" tire is like buying a Michelin HydroEdge in the desert just because it might rain once a month.

              I would save your money.

p.s. Lemme say I know nothing about actual rally tires but a small internet search provided me with these... http://www.racetire.com/products/hankook_r201.htm Not sure what kind of price the ATRs were for you though.

good points. To be honest with myself, I'll only be off-road on hard packed dirt county backroads and probably about 2% of the time. Otherwise I'll be on the pavement. I went with these to put me up a little higher, show off a skid plate, have a little more traction in the dirt without having to worry about spending most of my time on the highway. If/when I get serious about rallyX, I'll have rim and tires dedicated to each rally terrain. Probably start cheaper with the hanooks and maybe venture to the yokohamas. For $107/tire, its a fun trial in my opinion.

those are certainly bad ass but the IX require 205/xx/15 on the stock weaves. If/when I get more serious I'll get 14" bottle caps to dedicate in which case I could run those hankooks.
