    Clunk from steering knuckle.

    Hi All,

Almost the entire front end of my ix is new (as of July) New M3 Cabs, ctrl arms, tie rods, sway bar links, shocks, upper strut bearings.

Now I have a clunk (It might have been there before but now notice it, now that the rest of it is firmed up/not clunking)

As far as I can tell, the clunk is happening in the steering knuckle. When I turn the wheel left or right I get a little clunk, clunk, each direction.

I've checked the multiple spline connections and the bolts on the collars are all tight (3 on the ix, on a regular e30)

Is it possible that it is just bound up, or slipping somehow?

Again everything else is new, so it should be isolated to the knuckle/rack.

    they wear out..

pull it off (make sure you remove the bolts entirely before you try to pull the shaft out) and move it around in your hand, you should be able to tell. you have to loosen the collar nut to slide the shaft up into the steering column.

Cool thanks, I wasn't sure if I had to remove the rack to get it off or not.

I'll check it out this weekend thanks for the tip.

BTW, I'm just an hour north of you in Vancouver, BC. Pacific NW FTW!
