Ix engine problems =(

Ah man so i knew something would happen one day, but any way i drive a 1989 5 speed swap IX it has 297k. Yesterday on the highway i noticed a strange knocking noise from the engine, it came out of no where. my buddy is going to come tell me exactly whats wrong, but my main question is if i need to replace the head will any m20 head work? the block is the ix specific part right? hopefully the block is fine I assume they are hard to find.

Im headed on a road trip to sandiego from washington in 2 weeks so I need to get this car rolling quick =), thanks for the help in advance!

any M20B25 head will be fine

the ix engine is internally the same, except the block, oil pump, and intermediate shaft.

I actually have a second spare engine that overheated. I'm not sure of the condition of the head, but I think the block is ok. I'll sell you the entire engine for the price of the block if you want it, no accessories. Getting it this weekend would be perfect as I have to move both engines to the new house otherwise.

Hmm, not much chance I can get it this weekend. Not really until my wife goes back to work in September and I have Saturdays free. I basically only need a block and ix-specific stuff like the pump and pickup.

Basically starting to think about my next build. 99% chance I have an S52 crank coming.. No rush but I need somewhere to store the crank. ;) Shouldn't have thrown out my old ix block but I was kindof a dumbass.

Give me a call. If I'm renting a trailer to move it, I could drop it at your place. I'm pretty sure the head is toast and it's still on the engine, I won't be removing it before I sell it.

Just got back from my trip, ended up taking a nicer newer car but it was not the same. I got a engine off ebay beefore i left for $700 with free shipping, My friend is goiong to help with putting it in sometime this weekend. we will see how it goes!
