how to test a t-case that sits in my barn?

I have a t-case that is out of a car and I would love to know if it's VC is in working order. The case has 137K on it, had clean oil in it, and came from a well cared for car but it would like to be sure. Is there any way to tell with it out of the car?

Good question. I know people say test the resistance between the input and output. I have tried that with mixed results. Some with good resistance were bad and some with next to no resistance were good. I think the only definitive test is the jack test in the car?

you could always open it up. if there's a thick goo over everything it's dead (but don't throw it away!). If not it should be fine.

lock the input shaft flange and one output flange and try turning the remaining output it should be hard to turn and the more you try the harder it should lock(as the shear starts to affect the viscous coupling fluid). if the remaining output is easy to turn the VC is shot
