itd be cool if you could have an on off switch for it through the tcase somehow..and have a low/high range..

You "can" do anything you want. The big problem with this is nothing close to OEM would accomplish your mission- the vc awd setup doesn't have any way to be turned on off (unless your on off button is removing the front driveshaft) However- expect a ton of custom fab. You'd have to get the aftermarket (aka used SUV) transfer case, fab the shafts, fab the mounts... I may be a pessimist but I think you'd be better off owning one of each, as nothing good would come from all that extra weight up front not being used during rwd mode. Lets not forget you could easily have a cherry 325is and a cherry 325ix for the price of that work.

You can always break your t-case like I did, then sometimes you'll have rwd, sometimes you'll have fwd and sometimes it will feel like it's opposite corners...

Nando hit the nail on the head though, the front geometry is completely different on an IX then on a rwd E30 so converting it is pretty pointless.
