    dogleg gearbox in ix?

as in title, is it possible to get dogleg gearbox in ix. at the moment my ix is auto, i have manual gearbox from another ix and dogleg from regular e30. is it possible to repack dogleg in manual ix housing?

    thank you.

No idea, but good question. I know the bell housings are different, but I think the overall sizes are different too.

if you are refering to a 265/6 dogleg out of an E30M3 ,then no they are completely different boxes both in case and internals from the 260 5spd w/overdrive in a 325e/i/is/ix, so no cannot transfer guts...
never heard of a dogleg 260 box either, close ratio with 1:1 5th yes,but not dogleg

this dogleg is off m20b25, its euro spec and quite rare. front of housing looks the same... guess ill have to open and compare.

yes that is an ultra rare box for sure ,do you know any of the gear ratio spec on it?

sounds like the only way to find out if internals are compatible is disassemble both and compare like you state. good luck, if it works you will prolly have the only one in the world!

All the close ratio gearboxes i have seen that bolt to M20 are the smaller 245 gearboxes like used in E21, not 260 like used in the rest of M20 E30s. If this is what you have they are not interchangeable.

There were Getrag 260 dogleg used in 325i Sports in UK with the final drive being the same as a standard gearbox they were just doglegged and first three gears were slightly shorter.

There was also a getrag 260 cr that came on 323i in eu. they had a 1.00 rear like the much of the other EU gearboxes due to no real speed limit on the autobahn in the 80's. It wasn't until the fall of the wall and end of the C.C.C.P. that the autobahn became more and more congested.

My question is why would you want to try this? If I remember correctly the iX has a unique to itself gearbox.

There is a forum dedicated to just iX's that most of the info is available on. Or ask Nando or one of our other more knowledgeable iX owners on the site.

Welcome to the site. How is Serbia these days? Is it a far more stable country compared to say 2 decades ago?

thank you for your welcome. why i want do this/ i am planning manual conversion anyway, before i do this, gearbox will be checked and worn parts replaced. and, since i have both maunals laying around, its worth of try. as i know, parts in ix manual gearbox are the same like in any other e30, even other bmw models. someone said, if i manage to do this ill probably have unique ix, so why not.

about my country, its fine. other than that would involve talk about politics and this is no place for that. this is place talk about our ix's

it might be possible, you have two potential paths you could follow:

swap interal gears/parts into the ix transmission

swap the rear face of the ix transmission case onto the dogleg box. you'll need the ix output shaft in either case.
