318i tranny into iX?

So 5th gear to 4th gear shifting isn't working. I've had the shifter rebult and the more I dig into it the more I suspect its the tranny. I found a pretty damn good deal on a 5 speed from a 318i. I know the rear section is different but my mechanic (who's going to do the swap), says a standard 325i will work. Looking up on realoem I find part number 23001221207 for the tranny, which references back to late model 318i's, 325i's, and others.

Soooo....in theory it will work, right?

you'd have to disassemble both transmissions and use the parts from a 325i transmission to fix a 325ix transmission. this is the getrag260.

the 318i uses a getrag 240, so no. that will not work.
