5 lug adapters ok on a e30 ix??

    Hey iX gurus,

I'm curious about a wheel set up for a potential e30 iX I might be acquiring soon...

So for my question, I have 5 lug adapters that are 20mm in thickness. The wheels are e38 style 5s that are et23...

Would this wheel set up be safe to run with the AWD system? I know the ix is super sensitive with this kind of stuff....

    Thanks In advance!!

no, that's way way to low of an offset. To run those adapters you need to be running et40 or more on an 8 inch wheel.

Your best bet is to sell the adapters and put that cash towards a shop redrilling the wheels to 4x100. et23 on 16x8 is still pushing it, but can be done with the correct tires.

an 8" rim with a 23mm offset is too low already for an ix. adapters/spacers are out of the question. it's not going to fit, no matter how you cut it. well, maybe if you ran a 185 tire or something. you need an offset around ET30-35 for an 8" wheel and you'd still need to get agressive with the rear fender trim for that, or run pizza cutter tires.

I'm not concerned about if they will fit under the fenders. I'm concerned if that offset will affect the AWD system at all? The wheel setup I have it's staggered or anything.

it shouldn't affect the AWD, but they're going to stick out past the fenders about 1". the front will be worse than the rear. you probably won't be able to turn the wheels full lock either.

Thanks for the info nando! Like I said, all I'm concerned about is not affecting the AWD with this setup. This is probably a temp situation until I can find some stock iX basketweaves..

staggered wheels will screw up the ix awd system. do not run them different diameters wheels will cause the vc to spin causing heat. this will in turn melt the seals causing the atf in the case to mix with the silicone in the vc. bad news....

standard ix wheels are et41. standard e30 wheels are et25. the hubs already stick out 16 mm further than a standard e30 with the same fenders. adding 25mm adapters will put you at et66. this is no bueno under any circumstances because the rear tires will fall outside the fender wells by almost an inch.

                            your math is backwards

                            et25 + 25mm adapters = ET0
