    Apparently Volvo's ] had similiar problems with a TNN bulletin that had customers using Loctite to seal and repair shafts..

    I bought and installed this front DS kit 3yr ago. Worked out great. What is the Volvo problem ? Joe

      if your driveshaft spines are not already damaged, it gives you an extra 1/4" or so of spline engagement. not a ton, but it's an easy enough mod. you could also just add some 3/16" washers between the flexdisk and driveshaft - same thing.

      As for the loctite, my hunch is it won't last for very long. the *primary* reason for failure, IMO, is improper spline lubrication - not the splines themselves. without lubrication they will rust, and it won't matter how much engagement you have because the metal turns to dust.

      now, why are the splines lubricated? because they move - not a whole lot, but the shaft can move, in and out of the output gear, a tiny bit. I doubt the epoxy would like that. but, if you have a car with hosed splines, it could be worth an effort.

        Volvo Loctite Reference:

        S70/V70-4-46-0004 Title: Rotating sound from the viscous coupling/housing.
        A rotating sound may be heard from the viscous coupling/housing on some AWD/XC vehicles. The sound occurs most frequently at low speed when turning and during warm weather at light to medium throttle. This sound can be caused by movement of the outer bearing race in the torque tube housing. This service bulletin describes how to minimize this sound.

            Nando - you're right - wrong one...

            Will locate... I spent a few nights on this..

            Here is a better loctite description.. Around page 18 or so..

              Reference..

              Here is one where they elude to "Axle shaft splines".. Different Service bulletin...

              I swear I had one in regards to driveshaft splines from Volvo too, but can't seem to locate..

              Anwho Axle shaft repair would be similiar in concept..




              Here is one more - starting to describe a loctite application to "eliminate any play" and prevent future wear..

                I've found that front spacer at about 3/4 of an inch thickness. It is a big deal to increase the contact patch on that front shaft into the case. Yes you can use something else to space it out but I like there setup as it ties it all together. Lube that front shaft ever 30k or modify it with a plug in the shaft and install a grease fitting.                   3/4" won't fit. the bolts for the driveshaft will hit the transmission. 3/8" is about the max and that's really close.

                  they also won't solve rusty splines due to improper lubrication & maintenance.
