How to tell if your cv axle is seated in the diff?

So? I am wondering about this. I read on e30 tech that its possible for this to happen and hence loose awd. http://www.e30tech.com/forum/showthr...cv+boot&page=3
Is there a way to tell. I jacked up the suspect corner. With car in gear the wheel spins freely, but the other side spins freely too. I did the jack test. My car failed. Back wheels are solid lock when in gear. Wont turn at all. So is there a way to tell if your halfshafts are seated properly? I assumed if you can get the axle into the hub, that it was seated properly.

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!!! i reached under. Felt a little play. Clicked it in. Now front tires spin opposite like a real open diff. Heres the best part. Re did the jack test. PASSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!! This has made my week!
