Quick and Easy Power

In addition to my other thread, regarding the ticking noise coming from the front driveline, I would also like to address power.

I realize that in 1989, the 325iX came with 168hp, and this was 20+ years ago. This said, I would like to up this number...

What are some quick and relatively easy ways to give my 325iX some more juice? Chip? Exhaust? Cold air?

a manual swap would probably make the biggest difference on your particular car, but the only "bolt on" that really makes any reasonable difference is a chip, and that's still going to be pretty small.

A cheap eBay chip from Perfformance give a bump $40. And a magnaflow rear muffler is around a $250 installed. I have a five speed and there is a real feelable difference in the upper rpms. Not to mention you can actually hear the exhaust note over the drivetrain.

Yeah I wouldn't mind putting a chip in it, and I want to do the 5 speed swap. I need the parts though! I live on Vancouver island, anyone live up here with a 325ix manual? Need a parts car.

Do the manual swap and take it from there.

I would concentrate more on replacing things like worn out gaskets and sensors rather that looking for ways to get more speed. Then save your pennies and throw a turbo in it down the line....

I turbo'd mine. It is awesome. I cant really imagine anyone regretting that move. Yeah it costs some money but can be achieved for a reasonable price. You can then claim that your car is fast. And you will want to drive it everyday. Only problem is that you will keep pushing for more power once you get a taste. Then youll be looking to stroke. 5spd a must.

How much would you say you have spent on your turbo setup? Did you rebuild the motor, or do you have low miles? Did you check the compression before the install?
