E46 xi Transmission swap (possible?)

So I heard an interesting rumor that someone had swapped an E46 330xi 5sd manual into a E30 iX. A quick look at the dimensions confirms that both transmissions have the same length and mount height. Does anyone know if the E30 xcase will bolt onto the E46 trans? (I'm not interested in using the E46 xcase)

Any thoughts, advice?

no.. not even close. the trans will bolt to the engine, but all similarities stop there.
