    old member new ix

Well, after selling my ix about 5 years ago I am getting a new one soon!!! Should have never sold it!!!

I have had 2 so this is number 3. When it gets here, I will post pictures and start a build thread.

My first question: Since my car is a 1988 it has the db bumpers, but the car comes with 90-91 front and rear bumpers. I did a search for installing the bumpers, but I kept getting 'malware' warnings when I got to the end of the thread, right where I needed to read how to do this. It seemed pretty easy. I have some front shocks on the way, so that is taken care of and now I will be looking for the rear bumper shocks.
The question:). Can someone give me a link that would give details on how to install the bumpers that would have pictures???
    That would be very helpful.
    thanks for any help,
    jm

i think you need to do something with the rear bumper brackets on the sides, but it should be pretty simple to swap.

      thanks

So I just need to get some rear bumper shocks? They must be shorter than the 88ix shocks.
And then the side brackets might need some work...as in cut off:)

you need plastic bumper shocks and the mounting brackets/clips for the sides of the rear bumper.

          bumper swap for front:)

Well did the front swap with the 90 plastic bumpers on my 88ix. I could not believe how easy it was. After 30mins I was pretty much done. Have to go back to do the wiring but the bumper is on for now.

I believe you will need to fill some holes on the back where the rubber cover for the db bumper goes down the side of the car towards the fender well. These holes go directly into the trunk, and not filling them will result in (most likely) unwanted water getting into the trunk. Someone suggested to me to get some plastic interior clips, the ones that kinda look like a christmas tree, and push them through the holes from the inside, and use some sort of sealant to seal them. DO NOT USE RTV!!! He told me that if you use RTV to seal the holes, when/if you decide to properly fill the holes and paint over them, it is nearly impossible to get the oils from the RTV out of the metal/paint, resulting in spots where primer and paint will not stick! Food for thought.

              Thanks for the input

Thanks, Today I took the rear bumper off and you are correct. There are some holes that need to be filled. Since this will be a snow car, I need to fill them for sure. The only problem I ran into was the bolt above the heat shield that holds the bumper shock on. Who's idea was it to put those bolts on the side. Why not on the bottom so you can take the shocks off!!!!
Well, think the muffler and heat shield is coming off tomorrow.
