    Crazy Talk?

    So, I'm about to undertake a 5spd swap on my iX and a thought came to mind. I'm putting in the 4.10 diff's but, why not use the 4.10 lsd from a M3 in the rear end? Had a couple concerns like will it be able to physically bolt to together (driveshaft and mounting points) and will it ruin the VC? Has this been done? Any thoughts?

    Understand that a clutch type diff does not to go theoretical %100 lock-up like the IX viscous type does. I'm sure it will change the characteristics of the car, especially in the kind of weather we all look forward to enjoying our IXs in :)

      the ix already has a LSD. there's nothing really to gain using the M3 diff, except it's a clutch diff. clutch diffs require a little preload to lock, the VC doesn't.. that's why BMW used it on the ix.

      I'm thinking of giving a clutch diff a try but with a 40% lockup, I don't think 25% will work well especially if it's an old, worn diff.

          I'm curious why? There isn't really any advantage to a clutch type other than "robustness" and easier/cheaper to find and rebuild right?

            I don't think it will be a drastic change but, it's something different and I have a M3 diff lying around my shop.
