    different tread same size

I just got 2 free brand new 185/65/14 directional winter tires that have been discontinued so I was wondering if I can buy 2 of the same size tires but with different tread and not ruin by lovely transfer case.

I see no problem with this but its a brand new transfercase so don't wanna hurt it

it "might" work but I don't think it's a good idea. Look what the manual specifically says about tires. They should all be the same size, brand, and type.

let me put it this way: 4 brand new snow tires cost $300-$400. a new VC costs $800 + labor and downtime and "while I'm in there" stuff.

I say put the 2 snow tires up on CL for $100, and spend the extra $200 on a matching set of 4. 185/65 is undersized anyway (sidewall is too short).

Red-ish 89 325ix with dent in the door, bad paint, missing center caps, broken defrost, broken ac, p/s pump may be going, brake pad sensors missing. On the plus side i just had the trannie and tc fixed for 2 grand!!
