What transmissions and their part numbers were factory bolted to the Transfer Case ?

Is there a site or good document link someone may please post which details which transmissions in the E30 platform were bolted to the Transfer Case ?

Are there any 6 Speed transmissions which bolt to the transfer case ? If not what are solutions that people in the past have successfully accomplished so as to have a 6 speed e30Ix ?

Realoem.com would be a good place to start. I highly doubt there has been any 6 speed iX conversions due to the specificness of the iX.

    Good luck.

well if you want to use 6 speed tranny, that aint easy assembly... originally e30 ix uses getrag 260/5 with modified rear cover. some people have made e34 525ix full drivetrain fit e30... but its 5 speed too.. 6 speed tranny need to be by your self... get newer 6 speed tranny, make it fit to the engine, then weld holders for transfer box... and then you need to make front and rear shafts fit... i prefer to install full e46 drivetrain if you got dollars.. :D

the only directly compatible transmissions are the Getrag 260 and the 4HP22.

the answer to your second question is no, and none exist yet.

why? the E46 drivetrain sucks. :(

E46 front oil pan/diff won't work in an E30 anyway. the diff hits the steering rack.

Could do a 24V swap, use the E46 6 speed trans with the E30 auto T-case and a custom adapter plate... (and fixed yoke conversion and custom driveshaft)

yeah, a 6 speed would defnitely be desireable. you could have low end gearing like a 4.10 but still cruise on the freeway under 3000rpm.

still haven't completely decided if I want a ZF 310 or some sort of 6 speed. the ZF is easier and cheaper, but..
