Starter Motor Removal Procedure???

Hi,
I tried using the search function for "starter motor removal", but I must not be using it correctly, because I'm not seeing any posts. I'm sure someone has posted a step by step starter removal for a 1980's 325iX (same procedure as the 325i?).

If someone could clue me in on how to search this forum, or post a link to the starter removal, I would appreciate it!

I know it is a difficult job, sounds like the intake manifold needs to be removed first!

You do not need to remove the intake, however it does make it easier. If you have crowsfoot wrenches then taking the intake off is very nice and allows easy access to the top bolt. Other wise you can use about 3' of extensions linked together and send it up by the transfer case and get the top bolt. I've done both, its not a fun job but its really not that hard.

clif notes version: changing the starter on any e30 fucking sucks my asshole! that is seriously the worst maintenance job on the car.

but yes, it helps to have two people. one on top to hold the wrench on the bolt. and the other underneath to turn the ratchet
