    Front axle seal replacement

I will be replacing the front passenger axle seal between the oil pan and the carrier because it leaks a bit, I was wondering what fluid should I drain before attempting this, the engine oil or diff fluid, just so i dont remove anything unecessarely, ive done my diff not to long ago so it doesnt have to be done! Thanks!

hmmm... i have had so many of these apart and i can't say for sure. when you pull the axle, no oil runs out. is it the oring between the pan and carrier or the seal on the outside where the axle goes in?

You dont need to drain anything but you might want to top off the diff.

No engine oil ever touches any part of the ix drivetrain.

it is actually between the carrier and the oil pan, i think its this because i always have dribble of oil right at the junction of the carrier and oil pan, so might be the seal, but also might be something else, fun times!
