front drivers shaft replacement

So, I pulled the front drivers side axel out and now trying to place it back into the T.C. side first. The shaft gose in 1/4 to a 1/3 in and stops . Do I pull out the retaining spring out and place on the grove of the axe then place it? any suggestions?

The front axle doesn't go into the TC. I assume you mean the differential. You need to first line up the splines, then give the axle a good tap to overcome the tension of the clip inside the differential. *Important to line up the splines *Do not remove the clip
