    Looking at a '90 325ix

    Hi Guys/Gals,

Im a longtime BMW fan, looking at picking up my first Bimmer. I have been in love with the marque for ages, and somewhere in dreamland, I would be in an e39 M5, but it looks like an e30 project car is closer to my current future.

At the moment, im looking at a '90 325ix, and its starting to look like i stumbled upon the most complex of the e30 varieties.

Its a 4-door, silver car with 250k on the clock and the asking price is $2500. I have done some reading re: the jack test, ripped CV boots etc. But I suppose my ultimate question is, should I steer away from the ix as my first e30 due to complexity/cost?

    Thanks in advance.

is it a 5 speed? any service records? 250k is a lot of miles but at this point few of them have under 200k.

It is a 5-spd. Not sure on maintenance records yet, haven't even seen the car. I plan to today.

I also found another one in my area that is a red 4-door, manual with 210k on the clock - $2100. Im still leaning towards the first because it looks all original with the exception of wheels and a CAI.

Any input on what the going prices should be for these puppies?

prices seem fair if the drivetrain is in good condition and they aren't rust buckets or totally trashed interiors.

lets put it this way, an ix with a good drivetrain is probably worth 2k in parts alone.

I second that. The price does seem fair... Get it and drive the wheels off it!

I agree that you should buy it; that is less than what I paid though mine had about 65K fewer on the odo.

Like you I was in the E30 market but wasn't looking for an iX exactly.
Still, when I went to see it I was hooked. I figure that no car is really practical, so I'd rather have something special. For a car like this don't look at it look losing the money, look at it like gaining a little bit of automotive history.

At least, that is how I justify myself.
