    iX '89 ABS brakes help

    Hello people!

I have a couple of doubts about the ABS in the iX. My car was converted to RWD (The car was converted before I bought it). Will I have problems with the front brakes and the ABS?

    Thanks!

should not affect ABS by converting to 2wd as the system uses the sensors at each wheel to control ABS and they will all still be there and work the same .

you just wont have engine decel braking effect working on all 4 wheels anymore (just 2) , you'll also still have the added IX mercury switch on the left shock tower that reduces engine braking by opening up the idle motor during decel that is not on a standard 325i 2wd (was there to reduce possible skid effect on awd models )

I have the doubt because the front bearing is totally different between the iX and the i/iS versión, in the i/iS version the hub and the bearing are in the same piece but in the iX the front hubs are almost identical to the rear hub in the e30s. Also I notice my car is missing 1 sensor in the left but I have the replacement :D.

Are the outer CV"s still installed in the outer hubs?
        If not, you'll have problems.

lol ouch, then you have no ABS rings in the front.. hence the ABS problems. Also without the axle bolted in to support the wheel bearing your front wheels may fall off sometime in the near future :\

That's what I meant by "problems"... the outer CV's hold the hub into the wheel bearing just like the outer CV's at the rear end do.

A friend told me if it is possible to adapt the i front struts to the ix, I dont know if that is possible because is totally different between the iX and i/iS.

you'd have to change over the entire suspension including the sub frame, and the caster/geometry will be wacked out. I can't imagine the handling would be particularly good.

if you change the sub frame, then you need to change the oil pan, oil pump, pickup tube, motor mounts, steering rack, and on and on and on..

In other words... is better to find an E30 i chassis, but I prefer to wait more and found all the parts and make again the car AWD.

                    Thanks for the help dudes!
