Alright so i put some 10w-40 in there, car was running fine. Then i noticed the oil pressure light doesnt seem to come on till about 20 mins into the drive. it flickers on and off after the car is fully warmed up.

At first i thought maybe its my oil pump but then if it was...wouldnt the light just be on when i start up the car?

Another thing is sometimes the "engine oil" light comes on up top but sometimes it doesn't... -__-

    Anyone have any idea?

Then i noticed the oil pressure light doesnt seem to come on till about 20 mins into the drive. it flickers on and off after the car is fully warmed up. usually a bad sign as the oil is thinner viscosity when warmed up and this is when weak pressure will show up

At first i thought maybe its my oil pump but then if it was...wouldnt the light just be on when i start up the car? light will be on with key on engine off and should go out when engine is started , if its coming on there is either low pressure *(below 6PSI it think the BMW switch is set at, a wiring issue or bad switch)

Another thing is sometimes the "engine oil" light comes on up top but sometimes it doesn't... -__- if by "up top " you mean the Check Panel "eng oil" light comes on then this is for oil level only (not pressure) and if your sure the level is correct (checked with dipstick)then its most likley a sensor issue ,they get dirty/contaminated and can be removed and cleaned sometimes this fixes it ,if not the sensor needs replacing

Anyone have any idea? first check that the oil pressure sensor isnt leaking (its tucked up behind the right motor mount arm at the engine block) pull the connector off and make sure there no oil present at switch or connector, if its ok then its time to have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical gauge ,if its below specs warm then its time to dig into engine and find problem.

Alright, so i made sure i triple checked the oil and it is definitely right at the full mark on the dipstick. So i'll assume it is just a wacky sensor from the check panel.

I read on another forum that some other people have similar problems where when the car is fully warmed up the oil pressure light would flicker as well and when they changed out the sensor it was fine. Guess ill give that a shot.

Can anyone tell me if this is the right switch to get?

is what I come up with.

The part you reference on the Turner site ooks like it has a single spade terminal vs. the one I show that takes a two pin connector.

It's too dark and cold for me to get at my IX tonight but check your connector to be sure.
