    turbo ix "stroker" questions

To keep it short and simple a customer has come to me with the idea that he wants to make his turbo IX with a factory 2.5 engine into a 2.7"stroker". Now i know the blocks are different from awd to rwd so thats out of the question. But mainly im curious what the best combination of internals would be for a sprinty turbo IX.

    WE have access to:
    A spare IX m20b25
    An early m20b27 bottom end
And a m20b27 SETA Bottom end

Can someone inform me which combination of parts would be ideal for this setup?
Is it better to use the ETA crank rods and pistons in the ix block?
Would it be more desireable to use the SETA crank piston and rods?

A side note i should add is that i have a spare m52b28 and an s52b32 sitting for parts as well if there are any notes on that worth mentioning..

Also when this will be created, arp rod hardware will be used, but ill need information or perhaps links in which piston rings to use, which rod bearings to use, and if anything like wrist pins etc should be replaced. All engines are under 110k.
The setup will see megasquirt with a variation of boost between 12psi to 22psi, using a dual pattern 270cam from bimmerheads (turbo cam).

well, you sure have a lot of options on the table with all those engine choices.

if i was going to go to all this trouble, i would use the crank shaft from one of those 24v engines. you will need to have custom pistons made and the crank will need a little machining on the front. easily doable if you throw some money at it.

there are lots of people here with much more experience on this subject than i have. do a little searching in the m20 section of this forum and good luck.

The S52 crank will give you 3 liters. If you're building an engine, don't waste time at 2.7 or 2.8... go big or go home.

Agreed. Either turbo the stock 2.5 liter, or build something that actually makes a difference. the eta crank will cost you a lot of money and really .2 or .3 liters isn't a big difference in power.

out of the three you have, the stock 2.5 is the best option. yeah, it's smaller than the seta, but it already has the better built head and the CR is still just right for boost.

Alright. if we scratched the m/s5x engines in this list, what combination of the 3 m20 engines will ultimately yeild the most performance gains with only factory peices, and say no machining or custom pistons were to be involved. I dont think ill sway him into being able to cough up the extras (for going. Ig or going home) and ive already got the two 2.7 engines in pieces(have for a while). I guess having seen the items on my shelf it triggered these questions. Mostly Im trying to make a sale on some parts, and would like to actually put one of these together so i might document what a 2.7ix is in comparison to my stock engine 2.5ix.

            Turbo ix

I'd really like to see where this is going because in the near future I'd want to turbo my I x and I am not sure how to go about it or what kind of money would need to be spent. Has anyone heard of ways to support the drivetrain with the extra power. I've seen some footage of high power ix's and wondering howthey went about supporting it or if the origional drive train was strong enough to support it.

What are the actual benefits of going to the trouble of stroking that engine as opposed to just building it as is?
