Passenger side outer cv joint cage replacement

I was redoing the boots on a new set of front half shafts. The inner refused to move after 3 hours so i tried to remove the outer. It popped out but it was a bit tough to get down the splines. I'm hitting away and the brass punch slips. It breaks the cage right above a ball bearing.

What are my options here? Are RWD cv joint outer cages identical? Is rebuilding it, removing all the ball bearings, the cage, etc even possible? Finding a replacement cage without just buying another fucking axle is the real issue. This is my back up axle, so I'm not super pressed for an immediate solution, but it would be nice.

Especially since I could apply whatever solution that is here to my drivers side axle which I broke the outer cv joint to during a burnout.

Yes you can take it apart. Put the cage so that a ball is facing up. Pry it out through the slot in the cage. When all of the balls are out, place the cage perpendicular in the pot and slide it out. You can then take the spider out of the cage. I don't know about compatibility with the rear axles.

Try and find a shop near you that rebuilds axles. There is one near me that rebuilt a set of axles for me and has a wide range of parts available to them. They might be able to get you a new cage.

Just wanted to share the jig I made to hold axles while I rebooted them. Works much better than a vise. Took 5 minutes to make out of scrap with a bandsaw.
