So i understand with a dead VC in the transfer case the front diff dosnt get any power. So lets say hypothetically i where to leave it dead and i decided to throw 500hp through the car, regarding the drive line is there anything else that will die. Assuming the car is prepped for that kind of power. I know it sounds contradictory to even having an iX it was just a late night thought.

no, that is not correct. all 4 wheels *always* get power, even with a dead VC. But then the TC works like an open differential - so whatever end has the least traction, gets all the torque. I don't think that would be a good combo with 500hp.Originally posted by Bimmer_man View Post -

yeah, nope. it's always connected through the planetary gear set which is what really transmits torque. the function of the VC is really to limit the output speed of one end from exceeding the other (while allowing some differential so you can turn the car without scrubbing tires).Comment

okay i got ya. I need to pull apart my second transfer case so i can learn more about it it has a dead vc as well.Float like a cadillac sting like a Bimmer!:)
