    Is my wheel hub trashed?

Measurements are 42.05mm right before the lip and 41.75mm after.

Did your bearing seize and score the hub?

Yes hub is junk (new bearing race will be loose on that worn section and fail prematurely )

Bearing was loose. I just replaced it last year and last checked it 3 months ago and it was solid as far as I could tell. It seems ridiculous to get this kind of failure in under 3 months.

Does it slide into the bearing by hand? If you can slide it into the bearing by hand, that won't work. Did the axle nut work loose?

You could possibly hard chrome it to build up the diameter, but that will likely cost as much as a new hub from BMW.

Didn't think to check if the bearing would slide onto it by hand. That's a good idea. Two older experienced mechanic friends said trash when I texted them the pic so I already ordered a new one from fcp. $128.99 shipped.

Ehh... if the bearing is a slip fit, the hub is trash. If the bearing still requires a press to install, it's fine.

If it's fine, then you have an extra.

lots of places sell the rwd e30 bearing for the front ix bearing. if i recall, the size is about a 1/2mm smaller. perhaps this is your problem?

Talking to a friend made me recall how this happened. I found out the halfshaft keeps the bearing together when I drove around the block without the halfshaft in the car. I forgot that I ruined it and proceeded to drive for 3 months or something.

                  Don't do that folks.
