    325i block in 325ix

Out of pure curiosity what would one have to do to use a 325i block in a 325ix. I know the oil pump spins backwards and the dipstick is in a different location. Would it just be buying a ix oil pump and drilling a new hole for the dipstick? Plug the old hole. Is there any other issues?

That should be the only real issue, I personally dont like the idea of tapping the block but thats just me. I have seen people run no dipstick as well, which is a terrifying thought.

you'll have to make some sort of plug with a hole in it for the oil pressure regulator. it's built into the pump on the ix, and threaded into the block on the RWD cars.

personally, I think its more work than its worth.

also, it's not just that there's a hole drilled into the ix block for the dipstick - it's a completely different casting. there's a space cast into the ix block specifically for that hole, which doesn't exist on the RWD block.
