Why does nobody use linear rate big boy springs?
I can't stand driving on progressive springs...The best one-stop shopping for German car parts and lifestyle: http://www.gutenparts.com/Comment

Sure. Hypercoil, eibach. You just need coilovers adjusters to mount them. ;)

Which Springs for IX
I guess people are more interested in bolt on parts. They don't like modifying things themselves.
Once you have "normal" spring perches, you can buy and spring size, length, and rate that you want for about $50 a piece. Way easier to change than stock springs too.
Past couple days I've been looking at exhausts for instance. Atleast $500 for a cat back exhaust?
I had my local exhaust shop build me an entire system from the manifolds back including a borla muffler for $300... y-pipe where I wanted it, single 2.5" pipe all the way back, bends where I wanted them, a flange where I wanted it, hangers where I wanted them. Etc.

Generally that's true. Custom work is really about connections or shop access etc bolt ons take care of that.. As for the exhaust I did that exactly and the cat back didn't even fit/ needed the brackets modified anyway. As for coilovers, I'm not sure if it's the best investment of your driving your iX everyday. I'll probably look into it in the future. I'd rather not pay almost two grand for gc coilovers anyway. I need to do a clutch, rebuild the transfer case, rear subframe bushings etc before I can think about that. Probably do some head/ exhaust work aswell. Aren't the coils in the GC Kit eibach? Most iX owners are on the same page. Maintaining these are already expensive enough..I guess people are more interested in bolt on parts. They don't like modifying things themselves.

I agree. This is an upgrade to be done after mantinence items have already been taken care of.
$2k?! A coilover kit from GC with springs is only like $600.

2k is about right for the full setup. F&R koni shocks/struts (~$700), camber plates ($400), heavy duty RSM's ($100+), coils ($429), modifying the strut housings (Ithink GC will do this for $250 shipped on your dime?). You'll also need shorter sway bar links or need to modify the stock ones. You can piece it together yourself and do all the work yourself like I did to save a bit of moneyComment

Yes, but take it that you have good functioning shocks, buying the spring & adjuster kit is only $429. If you don't have a welder you can have any shop cut the stock perches off and weld on the collars for the adjusters for $50. That's $500 all in!
Camber plates, RSM's, shorter sway bar links, etc. is all extra upgrades that are not needed to convert to linear rate springs with coilover adjustment (for height adjustment and more importantly corner balancing the car).

Not sure what the stroke is on the vert front suspension but i'd imagine that it's shorter than the IX front. I will have good condition stock IX springs available soon if you're interested. The best one-stop shopping for German car parts and lifestyle: http://www.gutenparts.com/Comment

I suppose as long as a person is using spring rates close to stock and keeping the height adjustment to a minimum; that would be fine.Yes, but take it that you have good functioning shocks, buying the spring & adjuster kit is only $429.
