    Ix on a tow dolly

    Hello

    Im looking to pick up an ix parts car and get it home(130miles) to me on the cheap. I have a dolly and im wondering if i pop out the rear axles would i have bearing support issues? Is there an ideal(as ideal as a dolly and awd could be) method?

    If you must do a tow dolly, i imagine pulling the front driveshaft woulf be the easiest method for safe transport. Uhaul charges very little extra for a full length trailer.

          As suggested, it would be best to remove the front driveshaft if you're going to use a two-wheel dolly.

            taking out the front driveshaft is a solution. personally, if it was my car, i don't think removing the front driveshaft is enough to potentially not risk damage. the rear wheels are still going to be on the ground and the tc is still going to be spinning its ass off in there. its probably about 80% safe. be sure to check the transfer case fluid level if you do this.

            i would check the tc before you do anything. there's a sticky here at the top of this sub forum on how to do it without using the jack test method. its probably already bad anyway, so it probably doesn't matter. but if its good, i strongly suggest a flat bed. especially for 130 miles.

                The trans could potentially be at risk by pulling the front driveshaft and leaving the trans in neutral.
                In a stick, the output shaft would be turning, but because none of the gears would be turning, there wouldn't be any oil moving around the gearbox. The needle bearings that run under each gear on the output shaft *might* run dry and be damaged.
                There's a similar situation with the automatic. When the pump isn't turning because the engine isn't running, then oil isn't moving around the gearbox... I don't know enough about the 4HP22's internal workings to know if it would be hurt by having the output shaft turning while the pump isn't turning.

                  Yea, the 4HP22 can be damaged by idling in neutral for long periods of time...

                    mostly from raving the motor in neutral such as when doing an exhaust sniffer emissions test.
