No e30 has the clutch start interlock keeping you from starting it until you depress the clutch; it wasn't introduced until the e36.[/QUOTE]

I am 100% sure that I can start my '91 IX without depressing the clutch...

    it's for engine braking control.

if you lift the throttle without putting in the clutch on an icy surface and the wheels slip, the mercury switch on the driver's side will stay open (open = you're not slowing down) and it will open the ICV (by sending an on/off signal to the DME on C101 pin 19), which should reduce engine braking and stop you from slipping.

Basically, it's a really crude, early version of ASC/DSC.

What does depressing the clutch while the ABS is active do?

upgrading the rear sway bar to 16mm? I found a eibach rear bar on another e30 at the yard. And I figured it wouldn't hurt it. But I also don't want the car to feel too neutral.

Just ask questions if you have one; I didn't want to make a useless thread but was curious if anyone knew this.

That might make sense. Maybe it's some sort of signal sent to the ecu and it effects the "traction abs system"

Why the heck does the iX have two clutch switches?
