I picked it up as a rolling chassis. Rebuilt the entire engine. It is now a 3 Liter Stroker with ~9.5:1 CR.
Forged Ross Racing Pistons and Rods.
S52 Crankshaft.
Was motronic 1.0, now motronic 1.3 with stock intake, head, and exhaust... for now.

There are really some nice roads in CO, you may enjoy pictures from the meet we had in august in Pagosa Springs, CO (near durango). I drove my brothers e36 m3 instead of my iX and it was a blast.
Pics are here, planning to bring the 86 iX next year...

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

e30 touring IX
Just bought a Touring IX. Now I want to find some wheels and slightly lower it. So excited to finally have an E30. I will always be a wagon man
Does this look like its stock Height? I'm not sure if it has aftermarket springs in it, I dont think it does but its MUCH firmer than my dads e30 vert

ya, thats stock-ish, front springs might be cut or broken.
but anyways... Welcome to the iX touring club!
I have some H&Rs I can probably part with to bring it a little lower, or go for some GC coilovers. I've also got some not too bad 17's that look good on an ix, but will need one tire for sure.
Tint on that will go a long way for looks too.
Good luck with that thing, I've been watching it for a while.88 325 IX DiamantSchwarz - TOURING - waiting...

have you put many miles on it since the rebuild? and have you driven IX's with the other two diff options ,and if so how do you like driving with the 3.64's instead , i really want a set for mine so just interested in your opinion so far ....

I've got about 75 miles on the engine so far when I sprung a coolant leak and I noticed my timing belt was shredding. Currently looking into that at the moment, but I will share my first impressions of the engine/ diffs.
My stock iX has 4.10 with cam/headers so it is much different than stock. It has more power up top but feels like a dog below 3k and pretty buzzy on the highway. It would be nice with a longer final drive for highway driving.
I also have driven a bone stock iX 5 speed. It has much more low end grunt than my 91 iX but kind of runs out of steam up top. The final drive isn't much different in all honesty, slightly longer/ better for highway driving. This is probably preferable for daily driving.
With the 86 it is different. I also installed a lightened flywheel (~10 lbs) so I have tons of low end power/torque. It is addicting. I also love downshifts now due to the lighter reciprocating mass. I have only revved it to 4k RPM but the higher CR and displacement probably add to the torque. I think with the stock head and exhaust I am restricted further up top at the moment, but haven't been able to test it. The final drive is awesome. Its a 12% difference from the 4.10 I have and when I took it on the highway I finally can cruise without buzzing at 3500 RPM. With the 4.10 im at 66 mph at 3000 rpm but the the 3.64 I am at 76 mph at 3000 rpm. I like it a lot because even with the longer final drive the black car feels faster than my white one. If you can find a set I would recommend them for sure! (not sure how slow they would feel on a regular m20 though)318iS Track Rat :nice: www.drive4corners.com
