120km/hour, holds ~3000rpm, and never shifts??

So I got an iX the other day,

It shifts completely different than my cabrio..

Is it normal that I'll be doing 120km/h at 3000rpm, and the enging never shifts to the next gear... I can accelerate, and the rpm will slowly climb... and still not shift.

    What's going on here?

    TIA

Are you pushing the pedal to the floor stop? My friends sisters Cab always seemed really slow to me untill I mashed the pedal to the floor the other day and realized there's some sort of resistance towards the end that you have to mash through.

      haha

No, even when I floor the iX, to the ground... it only slowly accelerates..

Do the two e30's shift different?

there's a downshift switch underneath the accelerator pedal.

I'd check that switch, as well as the kickdown linkage for play/resistance. it should shift down if you push down the kickdown switch.

What happens if you force it to shift down with the shifter? Will it go into 3rd gear or does it stay in overdrive?

confused - the switch is underneath the accelerator pedal? I have to push down on it?

I'll try to manually shift down with the shifter....

What seems weird to me, though... is I can give more gas... and the car still doesnt shift up... it just slowly speeds up...

yes there is a switch that electrically forces the transmission to downshift, but it only works if you are below a certain RPM threshold. But there is also the kickdown cable, which is the means to downshift normally.

if it's not shifting down when you step on it at ~3000rpm, one or both of the above mechanisms aren't working. You can confirm this isn't an internal transmission problem if you can manually shift it down.

so you can floor it and it won't down shift? or is your criusing rpms at 3000rpms at that speed?
check the kickdown switch, can you manually shift it down a gear? in my car with the 4.10lsd, 55mph it at 2500 rpms and that is the last gear there is no gear after for it to shift down to to lower the rpms, the overdrive with a 4.10 is basically non-exsistant, its about 100rpms.maybe your car has a different diferential ratio than your cabrio and thats why it feels different.flooring it should definitely down shift into 3rd at those speeds.

I'll try downshifting using the shifter on my way back home from work - hopefully that'll work, and it won't be due to tranny failures...

Now, seeing as how it isn't downshiting when I drop the pedal.. something is definately wrong, right?

I still have no clue what this 'downshit switch' is.. but I'll take a look under my gas pedal.

is the kickdown switch just that little bit at the end of when you are pusing the pedal down, that feels a little more firm?

                  -OH

And I am yet to see the car's RPM climb over ~5000

                  ??????

                    definitely check your kickdown cable

if you hold the throttle down with the kickdown button enganged it should hit redline in 3rd gear, it won't let it upshift to 4th.

The issue is pretty much resolved -

That being said, the cars definately do shift a little different.. I drove them both this afternoon.

What's still weird to me though, is that I will be holding 120km/h at 3000 rpm..

The cabby does it at ~2500 if i'm not mistaken..

Anyways.. could just be that i'm blunted 90% of the time..

Thanks for the help, though, guys.

there isn't really a "switch" under the pedel, its just a device to create resistance and "feel"

the actual "switching" occurs at the detent cable/trans

it's a switch. I know, because I removed mine for the swap.

is there an electrical connection behind it?
