Hi i recently bought and 88 325ix right out of a junk yard. it had only been sitting for about a week. It had no rear glass no exhaust no wheels and it didnt run when i bought it. i only paid 700 though and fixed most of that for free. I had been driving the car for about a week when i came out one morning and found my front diff was leaking oil. I found it had an impact in the cover from the inside. when i removed the cover i found a spider gear tooth in the bottom of the case which had impacted with the ring gear into the cover causing the leak. i have two questions does this happen to alot of IXs? and does anyone have another front diff(3.91)?

No, this does not happen to a lot of IXes(from my experience). If there is clean fluid regularly changed in that diff it should last forever. I have a pair of 4.10s if you want more low88 325 IX DiamantSchwarz - TOURING - waiting...

it happens sometimes, usually in high-HP cars that drag race, but not very often at all in a regular street car. My guess is the seals were bad and most of the fluid had leaked out, and considering the car was in a junk yard I bet whoever owned it wasn't very nice to it either.
you need a front 3.91 out of a manual, or get a set of 4.10s out of an automatic. Just beware that they need to match front and rear.Comment

i dont think it was low on fluid. there was a huge puddle afterwards and it all seemed clean. its possible they werent very nice to the car. but its just a regular m20 and i seriously doubt it has enough power to do that. i just thought maybe this happens sometimes but i guess not.Comment
