Hey guys - proud (now that it's running!) new owner of an 89 iX 4 door auto that I picked up for $700 .
Almost completely rust free, one small quarter sized spot on the PS fender dogleg, and a small spot on the lower rear corner of the front passenger door itself. No rust in trunk, lower rear valance, rockers, shock towers.
The car has 267k miles on it, and was previously in Palm Springs, as well as Colorado. Was dealer maintained until at least 210k. Last owner was an 18 year old kid, who loved the car, but didn't have a whole lot of money, nor a lot of knowledge about BMW's. When the stalling problem happened (see other post), he threw a lot of parts at it, albeit Advance Auto/Autozone parts. I've now gone through and replaced the horribly gapped platinum spark plugs, cracked dist. cap, clogged fuel filter and fuel pump, and a few other things are next - t-belt, pump, belts, etc.
I had another 90 325ix that was hit in the rear, that got stripped out. I still have the front diff, front driveshaft, and a few other odds and ends. Starting with the front diff, I'd like to rebuild/restore, then install and do the same to the parts that are taken off.
My question - what/how can you fix/restore/repair the front/rear diffs on these cars? How about the t-case? Is it possible? The car has a rear wheel bias right now, even when slipping, but the fronts are getting traction.
Also - I'd like to do a drain/fill on the diffs and t-case. What's the best fluid to use? I can't imagine it's been done recently.
Thanks!!!
