front axle in all the way??

I did not see anything already posted about this- in the middle of a whole front end renew on my '88 iX. In the home stretch now putting it all back together. I have a question regarding the- passenger side cv axle, in 99% of the way- wont go any further. How close does the CV "body" get to the shaft extender? Attached pic is where CV is currently- the CV- front diff splines look to matched up when viewing from drivers side. Thanks!

Can you back it out, rotate it a little bit, and then shove it in?

I'll give that another try. I've been looking for a photo of a "correct" install for comparison.

You can see it should be flush.
