    Insurance help...

My son and I have spent the last year restoring an 85 E . Unfortunately, as he was pulling into a parking lot a woman in a Taurus backed into him denting the rear door and running the car down the fender lip and bumper surround.

The issue I’m having is the insurance has quoted $2600 for the repairs and valued the car at $16-$1800. The car will be totaled and have a salvage title if I agree to their terms. I feel that the repair costs are inflated and the value of the car deflated. So I’m turning to the forums for a reality check.

As you will see in the pics the car is now very clean. It has been outfitted with a full GC track school kit new tranny and clutch, master and slave cylinders along with a fresh head. I’m not looking to gouge the insurance company, but have to prove that the car is valued higher than what their generic appraisal shows.

    I appreciate your feedback!

    Thank you

Drag up all the receipts for what you just spent. Also, throw the term "enthusiast value" at the appraiser. Last ditch effort would be to get a few notarized statements from enthusiast owners talking about the value of these cars. Scan some ads in the for sale section on here, E30tech, BF.c, you get the picture. That oughta change some minds about appraised value.

Don't mess with the repair cost unless you can't get the appraised value up to that level. Good luck!

no offense but according to insurance companies, a DB eta is really worth 16-1800 in their eyes. Most insurance companies won't cover modifications unless you tell them before the accident (then they jack up your rates). Unless you plan on selling the car down the road, the salvage title is no big deal. I say, take the money and fix the car up. Put up with the salvage title.

Altho, I was in a similar situation and my title isn't salvage. IIRC its only a salvage title if you can't repair the car back to its original function (IE the paint doesn't have to be good but the body has to be straight)

      Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!

Beleive me, I tried the Enthusiast angle, they couldn't care less.
I understand what the E is worth on books, that's why I'm turning here.

what im saying is, why not take the $1300 ($500 buy back I'm assuming) and fix it yourself. Fight the salvage title if you want. Bang out the dent and get a macco job and spend the other $1k on upgrades. Thats how I did it. Thats how I got my first lsd and short shifter.

Thanks, I'll be doing all the work myself, as always, except paint.

This coming from a proud eta owner; the appraisal is fair/high. How many miles are on the car? Most of the guys here think etas are worthless turds no matter the condition. I think you should take the money, buy the car back, buy another car and swap all the new parts.
