short of sanding/priming/ painting. how do just stop the rust from spreading?Renting my rear wheel bearing tool kit. SIR

wire brush it and keep it as small as possible. brush on some self etch primer. just get some in a can and spray it in something. wait till it dries a little and gets a little thicker. brush it on. then brush on some white paint. keeping it as small as possibly is a big deal. put duct tape around it so you don't hit any other areas. you could also use some 36 grit very carefully.
