What will a shop charge to paint my hood and valence?

I need to have my E30's hood and my E34's plastic front valence re-painted, both in Brilliantrot, because of oxidization.

How much will a shop charge to prep and paint these two parts, do you think?

A good shop will charge at least $450-$500. You can get it done for cheaper, but I doubt you will like the results.

      Don't do it.

Paint the whole car or buy used panels. My wifes car is a perfect example. 2 tone red sucks.

It depends on the color. Schwarz rules for that. I had my fender repainted, and you can't even tell the difference, except on the rockers.

Painted off the car, it will never match, but if you take it in with the panels installed, they can blend it and/or tint the paint to match better.

i would have to disagree man. the body shop i take my rx8 too (and its been there about 10 times -_- they recognize my voice on the phone....) is exceedingly good. they paint matched my front and rear bumpers (oem replacements) better than factory did. i know they could do it. im sure they could even paint in a little paint fade in a few spots to make it match better. haha.

but they are ass expensive. they quoted my friend (yakino on here) 8 grand to repaint his bronzit e30. lol.

its not that its not possible. its just not feasible. its a lot simpler to get a middle of the road body shop to repaint the car for >$1500.

                  RX8= NOT single stage.

                  Does not apply.

if your car has been at the body shop over 10 times, either they´re not very good at it, or you can´t drive!
                    LOL
                    just kidding

PO, paint the whole car and get it over with. Even if it´s not the paint job of your dreams, at least it will be one uniform color.

Has anyone prepped and sanded their own car?

If I sand it, and remove most of the trim, that should save some $$$, right?

I can always sand it most of the way, and then the body shop can primer and fill and paint from there...

I don't have $4-5k for a paint job. I might be able to do $1500.

Yes single stage fades, but you can also wet sand and buff it, and it will come back to life. 60% of the time it works every time. If you have a porter cable you can use some aggressive cut compound, but a detailer with a rotary and some skillz can probably do an even better job with a less aggressive compound. Anyways....do that to the paint that's still good and I think it'll match the new red decently. Or do that then bring it to body shop along with bumper and have them mix up the paint based on your car. Some supply places have a "gun" that looks at your paint and spits out a paint code I believe although I've never seen this mystical creature in action.

Basically...if the rest of the paint is decent put repaint out of your mind that's crazy talk

Not sure what all the single stage talk is about, Brillantrot was a base-clear paint job from the factory. A good shop's paint supplier has a device that can "see" your car's color and print out a recipe for that exact color, faded or not. Couple that with a blend job by a good painter and you should be good. This should cost $500-$700.

                            No, it wasn't.

Only metallics, all others were single stage.

Paint fades at different rates depending on its thickness and age, even if the quality of the pigments are identical...so it may match near perfect now, but it won't in the future.

My car's hood was definitely aggressively cut by a previous owner, as the paint is thin along the hood's edges and defined contour lines. So another cut job will get me down to primer...

Looks like I'm going to have to either go the route of getting just the hood painted, to see what the comes out like, or try to prep the whole car myself and take it in for a full re-paint. Scary... but I might have to try it, I'm not going to have $5k+ for a complete bodyshop job any time soon... :( :( :(
