For all you "do it yourselfers" out there, The rollerpaintjob writeup is for you. Find out how I painted my white 345i using a roller and rustoleum paint. This writeup includes 57 pages and 63 figures (of which 150+ photos are provided).

End result looks good. Im guessing it takes a long time to polish the paint? is the paint harder or stronger than standard paint?

It took me about 10 minutes to polish 1 sqft of body panel. The specific parts such as mirrors, bumper trim, valence took slightly longer.

Remember, I did it all by hand and documented as such. I am 100% sure that you can get better results if you use a finer polish and if you do it with a machine, but I'm not an expert in that.

The paint was stronger by primarily mixing it with mineral spirits. I don't really know if the act of polishing the paint makes it stronger.

I think that the complete cure time of the piant is in the "weeks" timeframe.

Don't get me wrong, paint looks baller.

Some smileys would set off that front end though. Angel eyes just don't look right on E30's.

Rollerjobs won't have a clear coat I assume?

No clear coat. I don't know what the long term repercussions are to the paint when applying clear coat, so I can't speak to that.

Clear coat shouldn't bother the paint in the long run, but if you are getting results like that without it, regular maintenance with a high quality wax should keep it pretty for a while:)

What is the advantage of roller painting a car, rather than using a spray gun?

It doesn't take much experience... only patience (like any other paintjob), but you also save a lot of money and don't have to spend alot on equipment.

That's the major advantage.

I've personally witnessed my rollerpaintjob next to some homemade spray jobs hands down, my paint was better than theirs. No runs, no orange peel, nice shine.
