    Front bumper tucked

Andrew and I got my bumpers tucked today. The front is done and mounted, and the rear is done too, it's just not mounted yet. I'm using the rear bumper / shocks from an 88, but the shocks from the 88 are a bit different and I have to modify them a tiny bit, not to mention I need to clean the bumper, so it's not on yet. It's pretty damn filthy. I was suprised, the shocks didn't really spray oil at all. When we drilled them, a lot of air blew out, and then as we compressed them in a vice, quite a bit of oil squeezed out of them, but nothing sprayed.

    Here are the pics:

(In this pic, it looks like the bumper is actually tucked so far in that it's behind the airdam, but it's just that the airdam is sagging)

In a few weeks when it gets warmer, I'll pull them off again and paint them. They're going to be done satin black with SEM trim paint. I've also got to do something with the front airdam. It's pretty saggy in the center part, the top of the airdam and the bottom of the bumper have a decent gap in-between, and the 20 year old plastic mounting brackets are pretty weak (one is cracked), so I'm planning on constructing some new / better ones from metal, and really reinforcing and strengthening it up.

*EDIT* I finally got the rear done this weekend, here's a quick shot (yes, my car is beyond filthy, it's been raining/snowing all week):

I used an 88 rear diving board with 88 rear shocks, so it's compressed quite a bit. When it starts to get warm again, I'll paint the front and rear bumpers, and I also plan to seal the bumper shrouds down around the bumper somehow.

Thanks guys. The gap in-between the airdam and the bumper is going to drive me nuts though, I have to get that taken care of soon.

What a difference! That looks great man, and when you get the gap fixed, it will be even better!

Not the greates solution but the easiest to your sagging problem is a self tapping screw(s) into the bumper from the air dam.

If you made custom brackets though I would like to see them I have the bar in my basment, but all the brackets are broken to shit and I want to make new ones.

            Sold it.

That's one idea I'm kicking around. As long as it works, I'm not really too concerned about whehter people think it's "cheap" or not.

Can you say "CNC machined brackets" made by me at school? IF you get one to me, I'll draw it up and see what I can do. :) ;)

I was thinking the same thing. We'll get one off the spoiler and you can draw it up when you get back from your trip abroad. ;)

                  Bon Voyage, Andrew!

Wait until it's painted in a few weeks, and the rear done to match. Bumper trim will all be repainted as well.

Looks good Josh. I think black E30's can pull off diving boards pretty well. I envy your non-wavy surrounds.

do the surrounds get wavy when people tuck their bumpers, or is it just something that happens?

It's usually with the pre-86 bumper surrounds, they were made from a MUCH cheaper plastic, and just turn to shit over time.

After I paint my bumpers, I'm going to seal the surrounds down around the bumper with double-sided 3M tape.

The iS airdam is also going to be bolted up to the bottom of the bumper, and a splitter/undertray that extends to the back of the airdam added. My goal is to create real downforce, and it can't do that if it's sagging down at speed.
