    New To r3vLimited

    Hello,

I just picked up an 86 325e 2dr and I found this site from another site. I like dedicated sites like these, so I'm looking for some help. This is just going to be a project car as I already have a daily driver.

The only major problem with the car is the brake lights do not work. They stay on, but when you hit the brakes, nothing happens (no one knows when youre braking).

Regardless, I was wondering where I can find kits for the vehicle.

I was interested in this kit, but I know there are kits that eliminate the black strip. Where can I find those?

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

For your brake lights check the switch at the pedal. It should turn the lights off when the switch is pressed in. It either needs adjusted or replaced.

As for that E46 E30 body kit I would not get that for my car.

      fixed.

as for the brake lights, make sure the black button on the switch is getting pressed down all the way. the metal frame holding the switch may be bent away from the pedal so the button isnt opening the circuit. ask me how i know...

I see thats not a favorite amongst e30 owners. I was looking at the MTECH II kit, but I'm sure I'll get the same reaction.

I will check out the brake lights after work today and see if thats the issue. Thanks for the help guys. There are no warning lights on the car since Ive bought it except washer fluid (obvious) and brake lights. The brake lights stay on, but Im guessing its the switch you guys are mentioning.

Mtech kits are OEM and are the best. Always and forever, Amen.

m-tech 2 kits are great! if you get a real one it will be really expensive and need work, but if you get a new fiberglass one (dtmfiberwerkz) the quality may not be that great. good luck and congratulations on learning so quickly! look through other people's projects for inspiration.

Preach on my brother! Even though its a hard find, MtechI kits on an early e30 looks perfect.

I actually saw this one and liked it. That was my justification.

And I know, after reading thru other threads, its also not one of the favorites

Except the side skirt, which I think is hideous.

part it out. Buy a rust free shell, these things are cheap, if you are going oem kit, then you can afford a better example.

Thats what i was thinking. Theres about 5 of these in the junkyard, so I'll see if theyd be willing to cut that part off for me. Im going to get wider fenders so thats not an issues, but the rust piece is pretty bad and thats the only part on the whole car.

i think that the point that farbin was trying to make is that you need to take a REALLY good look at the entire car for more rust before you go diving into this fix. the likelyhood of finding more rust is deff there. don't commit yourself to fixing up a car with more than a little rust in easily fixable spots. it is easy to find a rust free car to start modding than having to get the car in shape to get to the point where you can start modding it.

in reguards to the body kit stuff as has been stated earlier, the fiberglass stuff ranges from pretty good to total crap. if you don't have the skills or ability to do it yourself, you will end up shelling out lots of $ to a bodyshop to make it fit (they rarely come with any attaching hardware or brackets) and you may not be happy with the end results in the end.

i do bodywork for a living and NONE of the body kits just bolt on with out some form of refitting, trimming, and fabrication. i have installed LOTS of them and even expensive kits like VailSide required some work.

this again will lead you to wanting the best example of a car (body condition wise) that you can find. if things don't line up before, once you add a body kit (OEM or aftermarket) things just get more out of wack and harder to align so your lines and gaps are the same.

just a friendly heads up and welcome to the forum.
