Is there a DIY on removing the chrome trim around the windows & also...

    the side door mouldings?

I'm going to be prepping the car for paint soon, and wanted to know if I can salvage this stuff and/or remove it properly.

    Thanks!

There's a guide search and find it, the top trim pops off along the windshield then rotates off along the roof, the rest is held on by clips that I've read you'll have to break to get them off but I've heard conflicting informationn on this.

http://www.r3vlimited.com then go to tech section. It's right under your nose.

I removed all my trim - but I almost wish I has painted it on the car. It really seems easier. It's so easy to mess up the trim when removing it (I didn't) but if you should there is no fixing it - and it's a PITA to ship. The few people that will sell you some know this - and you'll pay extra.

thanks for the links. I'm most concerned about the drivers/passengers key holes. Are these a bitch to remove?

          Key holes? easy.

Order all new clips for the trim though. If you have pop out glass, just remove the glass with the trim on it (easier).

I'm assuming i can access the back of the keyhole with the interior door card removed? i don't plan on removing the glass, just the chrome trim

Yes, remove the door trim and you'll see a U shaped clip holding the cylinder to the door.

The chrome trim around the rear side windows is easy to remove but not easy to install, requires removal of the glass as it gets installed in the window seal groove. Thats why I said if you have pop out glass just remove the glass. Keep in mind the trim around the rear side glass should all be removed together, the upper curved piece, the bottom flat piece and the vertical b-pillar piece. The rest of the trim is easy, but the clips aren't reusable.

I just removed ALL chrome trim on my car and installed 318is trim.

I'm de-trimming my car prior to dropping it off for body & paint work and decided I'm going to shadowline the trim by having it powdercoated black. I used the tech info Jordan wrote and have everything off and the rear windows out. How do you remove the bottom trim piece on the rear pop-out windows? Seems to be riveted on and not easily removable.

Actually, all you need to do is pop off the circular black plastic trim piece around the lock. Easy peasy.
