    what's paint cost?

Let's say my car's body doesn't need any work beyond smoothing the typical door dings that the last 20 years have brought. What would a decent paint job cost to bring a brilliant red back to life? Ballpark.

around here, nobody will charge you less than 1K (at the very, VERY minimum) for anything decent with maybe a resemblance to a warranty

3-5K I'd say. And that's assuming you give it to them with trim and everything removed.

Lots of variables here. Single stage or base/clear? Autocolor garbage paint or Diamont? Red is expensive. How many hours would you like the painters to spend hiding dings? Jambs/no jambs? Glass in or glass out? Trim on/mask or trim off? Pro shop or freelance illegal? I say a hired paint job worth doing is gonna cost a minimum $3000. But I'm picky.

Ryann is correct. Lots of variables, and all red based paints are more expensive. I said $1000 as in "something you won't be totally embarassed to be seen in", but you won't be very proud either.

My M3 is undergoing a full resto, I have taken the body down to a bare shell and to do the whole body, jams, engine bay, trunk, and remove all dings running me about $3500, but thats alpine white and myself doing the teardown and put together again.

3-5k with just fixing minor dings and car stripped? Not my e30 but I paid $900 car was stripped and I painted engine bay jams etc.they did the rest .I would not get discouraged I had many shops quote around $1000-$1500 and they are willing to negotiate since the economy sucks so bad.the owner basically told me if he can keep his guys busy and cover cost hes happy.my paint on my rabbit came out amazing.

I just got my car fully painted also and it's definitely not cheap. My paint job was 2500$ and that was on the cheap side. It completely changes the entire car.
