Orbital polisher. What a joke.

So Yesetrday we had sun for the first time all week, nice and warm here in upstate NY and I figured id go to Mal-Wart to restock my wax, and look into some buffing compound to get some corrosion off the car.

For shits and giggles, I bought the Turtle wax 6" random orbital buffer. , If anything, to simply take the wax off the car a little easier and maybe help buff out the corrosion.

For $20, its awful. wont handle any kind of pressure, at all.

I know I should get a Porter-Cable if im serious about it, but I need to allocate funding to more important tasks at the moment. like buying gas to drive back and return this shitty product.

Anyway, I noticed a host of new products they had for wax, specifically Maguires X2 15.xx bottle of showroom wax. Is the cost justified? Whats your favorite wax?

invest in the porter cable 7424xp. Goes for around $120 on amazon so it's a great deal. At our shop we sell them for $150.

In regards to wax, it's not the wax you should be concerned about. It's the type of polish that is the most important step of the detailing process. Detailers pride their work on the quality of the paint correction performed on the car which is done by the polish, not wax.

Noted. At the moment its not high on my list of priorities, I have front tires to buy, a passenger side rear wheel bearing to fix, and a blown muffler to silence- THEN get the car inspected.

First large cosmetic purchase I make will indeed be a porter cable however. Though wetsanding my wheels down to a aluminum shine will probabaly happen first too....

In regards to orbitals, anything under $100 is a guaranteed POS. Detailing is all about quality, so you have to have quality tools.

For wax, I'm using P21S concours right now and love it. Works very well with my red paint.

For wax I use Dodo Juice Supernatural for the Bimmer and for my wife's car (saturn) I use Chemical Guys Jetseal 109 (sealant)

I've only owned a Makita polisher and since the 10 years I've owned it aside from changing the power cable I've had no problems. hit me up for 300.00 to get it. lol. I hear the simoniz polisher from a local hardware store up here isn't that bad and sells for 50.00 Canadian.

random orbitals are almost universally useless. a high speed orbital is the way to go, you just have to learn how to use it. I was fortunate to have an old body shop pro teach me how to use one on my car.

For wax, I'm using P21S concours right now and love it. Works very well with my red paint.

Little trick with the spendy P21S carnuba based wax, the s100 wax sold at Harley Davidson dealerships is the same thing (even the font and container are the same), best $15 I've spent on detailing supplies.

Be sure to go over the car with a good sealer before topping it off with S100, I've had good luck with KLASS All in one.
